  • Finally, after months of suffering from what we perceive to be a stomach ulcer, I'm seeing an actual gastroenterologist. Unsurprising, they want to have a look inside.

    I had a 2 capsule endoscopys, pill camera, back to back about 3 years ago because Ive been suffering from Ulcerative Colitis all my life. BOTH cameras ended getting stuck inside me. No matter how many times I told the doctors they were inside STILL inside, they insisted that they came out without me noticing. They eventually did a procedure to get them removed, BUT they couldn't quite get to them but they were very much still inside me via the x-rays. Since they were made of plastic doctors figured keeping them inside would be fine. Fast forward to last year I had a bowel obstruction and was hospitalized and the doctors also found that the cameras were not only still inside me but one was, get ready for this, BROKEN. I had to get th surgerically removed about a month later 🙃. Suffice it to say I'm not too fond of the pill camera and will NEVER get one again.

    Man, that pill-cam video would be quite the video on the vlog. We've had dan-cam, mal-cam, jeff-cam, chaz-cam, now introducing the new cam, it's called... (you know you want to say it).

    Glad you finally got to talk to the gastro! It's a good feeling when things start to progress health wise- feeling bad+ no progress is probably the most stressful part. Sending good vibes for your eventual scope!

    So glad you are finally getting sorted out. I've been on IBD meds for about three weeks and it's been a huge difference so far. Good vibes for your continued health ❤️

    Good luck with the procedure. Honestly one of the weirdest things about US healthcare is the idea that a doctor could tell you 'you don't need this but we can do it for a laugh if you pay', that's less horrifying than having to pay in general but still very weird.

    Pill cams are pretty dope, but they aren’t too helpful for the stomach. They’re typically used for looking at the small intestine because you can’t really scope it. Plus for an organ like the stomach it probably won’t get a good full view of the whole thing that the scope will allow you too.

    Ahh yes Sucralfate/Carafate. I was on that bad boyo 4x a day for 8 months and Protonix (acid reducer) 1x a day for a full year. MIND YOU - I had a slow bleeding ulcer and it was a gnarly, gnarly beasty. Scopes aren't bad. Nice little nappy. Like 30 - 1 hour every time I've had one done. It sounds like you might have an ulcer but something is slowing healing down judging by the commentary of the med helping. I had a yeast infection in the base of my esophagus that slowed it down. Hope you get some fuller answers Stephen.

    I've had on and off stomach problems for the past few years but still don't know exactly what it is yet. Hopefully getting closer to a diagnosis now following my most recent episode, just waiting for some test results. I had a scope during my most recent hospital stay and it wasn't too bad. I wasn't fully asleep but sedated so I was a bit spaced out but aware of what was happening, and it was actually kind of interesting to see my insides. The procedure wasn't painful at all, they sprayed a numbing spray in my throat so I didn't feel anything. Hopefully you'll get some answers once you get this done.

    my mother's had a few done up and down both ends. useful things, but oh boy she had one done a few years ago that they failed to give her enough sleepy stuff, she woke up half way through and that was not fun.

    I've had an endoscopy before, I remember I actually got the option of either being put under for it (meaning several hours in the hospital), or drinking a throat-numbing medicine and having it done conscious (so I could be done in an hour). I took the quicker one of course, wasn't pleasant feeling a camera right down my throat but it was certainly a unique experience.

    Endoscopy was what I was expecting. Glad they're suggesting to sedate you 'cus HOO BOY I had one of those unsedated and walked out the clinic I was originally referred to looking like I was in shock. Granted after having one at my local hospital and telling them who did and the nurse just going "...Oh. THEM" at me I felt reassured the 2nd time (still got sedated tho)
    For me though it's all under local anaesthesia not general for our local services so I was still awake for it, uncomfortable but not too bad, especially compared to the first endoscopy haha

    My parents had to go get a scope, because they got to age where they needed to but hadn't (and they were freaked out by my dad's stroke). So I took them to have their scopes and I got to see my mom all woozy! For some reason, my dad did his scope in surgery, but he was also on blood thinners. Idk

    really sounds like a stomach ulcer to me. one of my friends in school had one and it was caused by stress.

    • @spriddlez
      @spriddlez 3 года назад

      In a previous vlog Stephen actually mentioned stress. Turns out it is no longer thought to be caused by stress although I'm sure that doesn't help your body.

    • @katecolgan7770

      @@spriddlez yeah that’s true. Stress can’t be good for someone.

    • @HotaruHikai
      @HotaruHikai 3 года назад

      @@katecolgan7770 stress doesn't cause stomach ulcers, its something we used to think was the cause because we didn't actually know the cause and people who where stressed seemed to develop them. in the mid 80's we discovered that H. Pylori was the cause of stomach ulcers, so I suppose you could say its a fairly recent development. you can also get one due to over use of NSAID pain relievers, or from cancer. (this last one is uncommon) while stress may not cause stomach ulcers, it can definitely make your stomach ulcer worse along with the rest of your health.
